Gregory Wathelet
has started the indoor season in a super form. He galloped the jump off
course of the Rikstoto Grand Prix in the fastest time, 33.73 seconds, of the 17
riders with the stallion Kronos d'Ouilly. The same pare was also the
best the day before on the 150-level. In the Oslo Grand Prix the young
Spanish Sergio Alvarez Moya with Wisconsin 111 came
closest to the winner in 34.60, and claimed the second place. The European
Champion Rolf-Göran Bengtsson had to settle for the third
place with Kiara La Silla just over one second slower than Wathelet.
Aat van Essen and Minna Telde dressage stars of Helsinki
Dutch top dressage rider, Aat van Essen and Sweden's Minna Telde are the two most interesting names of the small field of international dressage riders showing up in CDI3* Helsinki next week.
Aat van Essen is a 70+% Dutch rider with nice success scored the recent years. Among those are victories in Grand Prix's in Brno and Zwolle and a remarkable World Cup third place in London.
Minna Telde is a long-time team rider of Sweden who finished sixth in the Athens Olympic.
Olympic riders Schoultz and Fredricsson enter Helsinki on "Finnish horses"
Two Swedish top riders, Lotta Schoultz and Peder Fredricsson, joined the squad of top riders for Helsinki next week. Besides their absolute top skill and long-term success, they offer some special interest to the Finnish audience at the Hartwall Arena.
Lotta's mount Larissa is Finnish-owned double Finnish and Swedish Champion from 2010-2011.
The talented horse won the Finnish Championships with her owner Thomas Ehrnrooth last summer in Finland's "La Baule", Hanko. Thomas gave his horse to Lotta to ride bigger international classes and the mare has done a great job with Lotta this year. Recently they finished second in the Grand Prix of Moorsele and won the Swedish Championships earlier in the season
Athens' number four, Peder Fredricsson brings his Finnish Warm Blood Arctic Borealis for the first time to Helsinki after itÅLs farewell as a talented young horse a few years ago. With Peder the grey horse was the first horse ever to participate in the WEG in Kentucky.
Rosa Ruutsalo
was placed second in the Tallinn FEI World Cup Qualifier with
8 years old Whisper As. Ruutsalo was one of the two riders who rode
the 160 course with four faults, and continued to the jump off.
There were 21 riders in the class but there were no clear rounds.
Ruutsalo was only five hundreds of a second slower than the winner
Anna Gromzina and Pimlico from Russia in the jump off. It is
Ruutsalo's, 23, best international placing so far with her 8 years
old horse Whisper As. The pair won the silver medal in the Finnish
Championship this summer. Next they will compete in the five star
UB Horse Show.
Helsinki International UB Horse Show offers the public the best names in jumping. Helsinki has six Top 10 riders. Among the field of riders are equestrian legends as well as new young stars. Also the Finns have a strong team, headed by Nina Fagerström, for the UB Horse Show.
Among the Top 10 riders there are familiar names from the previous Helsinki Horse Shows but also some new names. The European Champion and the World Equestrian Games silver medalist Kevin Staut is at the top of the European ranking list. The FEI World Cup winner Christian Ahlmann comes to Helsinki to defend both the Rolex FEI World Cup™ and the Helsinki Grand Prix wins.
The Irish Denis Lynch and Billy Twomey visit Helsinki for the first time. The leading lady, Edwina Alexander has won two GCT Grand Prix’s in Chantilly and Cannes and is always a strong competitor. The former world number one Pius Schwizer is familiar with winning in Helsinki.

Ypäjän mammuttikisoista Hartwall Areenalle
Oululainen nuori Ville Peltokoski räjäytti potin UB Horse Shown karsintakilpailuissa Ypäjällä sunnuntaina ja lunasti arvokkaan paikan tulevan UB Horse Show’n kansainvälisiin luokkiin.
BCM Scanhorsen ja Riding Club Cavalorin 30.9.-2.10. järjestämissä alue ja kansallisissa estekilpailuissa nähtiin viikonlopun aikana yli 1000 starttia. Yhdessä kauden suurimmista hallikisoista radalla olivat niin harrasteratsastajat kuin kansalliset huiputkin.
Brazilian Course Designer Guilherme Jorge, 44, is back in Helsinki this year. He has built previously in Helsinki in 2006 and 2008. He has also been in charge of the courses, for example, of the World Cup Finals in Las Vegas in 2005 and 2007. The riders described his smooth and colorful courses as “Brazilian Samba”. Let’s see what he is planning for this year’s competition.
