Pius Schwizer wins the second Rolex FEI World Cup in a row PDF Print

Pius SchwizerPius Schwizer and Carlina are in top form. The couple won the second Rolex FEI World Cup qualifier of this season in Helsinki International UB Horse Show. Schwizer was the fastest of the jump-off with nine riders. Maikel van der Vleuten rode his best result in the World Cup and came second with VDL Groep Verdi. Malin Baryard-Johnsson was third with an amazing ride. The mother of two almost fell of at the combination, climbed on and carried on with out stirups and the hat on her eyes. Finland's Nina Fagerström and her horse Talent gave the home crowd wonderful moments with two clear rounds, and she was placed fourth. It is her best World Cup result.

Pius Schwizer, 49, won the Rolex FEI World Cup in Helsinki only a week after winning the same competition in Oslo with his holsteiner Carlina.

-    Since the course was quite difficult, and I already won last week, I didn't want to take the biggest risk, so I could have been riding faster. Now when I have 40 points, I am able to decide what I do with my horses in upcoming World Cup competitions. I want to thank the course designer Guilherme Jorge. Courses in yesterday’s Grand Prix and today’s World Cup were fantastic. Difficult but not too difficult, commented Schwizer.

Van der Vleuten, 23 almost repeated his father Eric's World Cup win in Helsinki. The first place was less than a second away with the popular breeding stallion VDL Grouep Verdi.

-    I am very happy with this result, I wanted to have a good beginning of the World Cup season and so I did. My horse was great. He is a very honest horse and has the scope to the top, said Van Der Vleuten.

Malin Baryard with H&M Reveur de Hurtebise made the jump-off thrilling with her amazing three fences-ride without stirrups and with her helmet on her eyes. She managed still to do a clear round and was placed third.

-    We started the course very well, the horse was jumping super, but then he got a bit scared,  and at the oxer I wasn't really with the horse in the jump, so I landed not on but on the side of the saddle. I was about to fall of but the managed to climb back and finished the course without stirrups, commented Baryard her fantastic Cossac trick.

The fourth and the best Finnish rider was Nina Fagerström with Talent.

-    I did better than I could have ever expected, riding went exactly the way I had planned. In the jump-off I didn't want to take too many risks, and Talent is not a naturally fast horse, so I am super happy of my fourth place. It's always great to be successful in front of my family, friends and the Finnish audience, the highest placed Finn in the Rolex rankings said.

There were 48 000 visitors in the 27th Helsinki International UB Horse Show. It was the second five star competition in Helsinki, and the price money was highest ever, over 400 000 euros. Next year's Helsinki International UB Horse Show will be on 18-21 Octorber. See you then!!
